Project Title: Simulating Brakes and Stability Functions on Ice – Virtual Winter Testing for Functional Safety
Project Description:
Using plant models and production software models (Model/Software in the Loop, MiL/SiL) together with Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) to perform and correlate verification activities.
Within Feature Verification, activities to verify our systems within the area of Motion Systems (brakes, steering and propulsion) are performed and coordinated together with the Vehicle Dynamics team. Here we work with various requirements such as stakeholder, attribute, legal, function and functional safety requirements. The requirements need to be constantly scrutinized, verified, and validated. In the work towards faster, cheaper, and higher quality development, simulations are more important than ever. This thesis aims to implement and develop a virtual verification process for brake and stability functions with regards to functional safety in combination with winter/low mu conditions. This should result in a methodology that can replace conventional tests using physical test objects such as cars and HiL-rigs.
The objectives of this thesis project are to:
- Use an already existing vehicle and brake system model and simulation environment (IPG CarMaker).
- Select and implement a chosen set of verification scenarios with pass/fail criteria.
- Analyse performance and accuracy of both the simulation results and the models used (vehicle/HiL-rig correlation).
- Suggest a way of working to significantly empower virtual verification in the future with regards to FuSa and winter testing.
Key focus areas: Vehicle Dynamics, Motion Control, Simulation, CAE, Embedded Systems, Virtual Verification
